MOUNT Agung is belching out plumes of ash and gas as it continues to erupt in Bali. Here is everything you need to know about the majestic volcano. Mount Agung, known as Gunung Agung in Indonesia, translates into English as 'Paramount' or 'The Holy Mountain'. At 3,031 metres (9,944ft), the volcano dominates the Balinese landscape and from its peak it is often possible to see Mount Rinjani on the neighbouring island of Lombok. Agung is a deeply spiritual place for locals and is home to Bali’s most sacred temple, Pura Besakih, which stands high on the volcano's slopes. At the start of this month residents flocked back to Pura Besakih in the volcano’s danger zone to commemorate the festival of Galungan - a 10-day Hindu gathering that celebrates the victory of good over evil.

Bali Facts and Info: 7 Uncommon Things about Bali You Might Never Heard of ! 7. Balinese Women in the Good Old Days Before Indonesia gained independence in 1945, most of balinese women would go out on the street bare breasted. According to Doctor I nyoman Wijaya, historian and scholar at the faculty of literature and culture, Udayana Univesity, Denpasar, these bare breasted women signify the sincerity in their character. Moreover, there is a sense of trust among the balinese women toward their surrounding. After colonial time, the penetration of national culture gradually changed the way women dress in Bali. The javanese traditional clothing, kebaya, that has some influence on the traditional dress of the balinese women, was first worn by the elite. Ironically, the western women who once introduced full dress and bra to the eastern women now flock the bali beaches topless. Is it some kind of reincarnation? 6.  The Grotesque Iconic Symbol The two grotesque looking iconic creatures of Bali are actually a symbol of good spirit and character. First, the Barong is a monstrous looking creature with protruding eyes and teeth. In the mythology of Bali, He is the king of the spirits, leader of the hosts of good, and enemy of Rangda, the demon queen. The battle between Barong and Rangda is featured in Barong dance to represent the eternal battle between good and evil. It is believed that the battle has been going on in the spirit world. Secondly, Dwarapala, meaning the gate keeper, the fierce looking giant statues that we often see in the front balinese temples and buildings, usually holding a club. These giants are supposedly to protect the sacred place inside the temples from the evil spirits. The sculpture is normally carved in the  andesite white stone. 5. Laskar Bali Amy Chaves, a colomnist and social issues observer,  based in Japan, through her web site, Rocketnews24,  has placed Laskar Bali, as one of the five largest and most norious gang in the whole Asia. Laskar Bali, that is the largest local community organisation, with around 12,000 members, is cited to have security contract with hotels, restaurants, night clubs, from Kuta, Legian, until Seminyak. Some restaurant owner interviewed, admitted that these members of the organization are faster than the police in handling trouble makers. Though, according to Chaves, besides security, they are allegedly getting involved in illegal activities such as drugs and prostitution. 4. Garuda Wisnu Kencana Since 2013, the continuance of Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue construction has been underway, after being stopped for many years, due to the national monetary crisis back in 1998. The statue, designed by I Nyoman Nuarta, a leading balinese sculptor, has a dimension of 120 meters in height and 60 meters in width. This gigantic statue will make the tallest and the largest statue in the world, surpassing the statue of Liberty in the US and Jesus statue in Brazil. This gigantic statue, that is targerted to be finished at the end of 2017, is located in the bigest cultural park at Bukit Ungasan, Jimbaran and it will be seen as far as 20 kilometers from kuta to Tanah Lot. It is expected that this site is going to be the center of global multiculturalism. 5. The Height of the building In order to preserve the architectural and cultural heritage of Hinduism, local government of Bali, in 1971 issued an ordinance that restrict the height of a building that is not taller than the coconut tree of maximum 15 meters, or around four story high. The tallest building in Bali is Grand Bali Beach, that is ten story high, located in Sanur beach. This hotel was built long before the ordinance, that was in 1966. Grand Bali Beach has become the oldest luxurious hotel ever built in Bali. 6. Bunker House Beneath the small resort island of Nusa Lembongan, in the south eastern part of Bali, laid a bunker house made of rock. Though, it has been open for tourism, there are not that many people aware of this site. Inspired by gala-gala, the bunker in epic Hindu story, Mahabarata, a very old man, named Made Byasa, built this underground house for 15 years by himself using only hammer and chissel, from the age 75 until the age 90. This labyrinth looking house is sitting in the area of 500 square meters. Having used this house only for meditation, he finally died at the age of 98. 7. The Island of the Skull Sitting at the edge of Lake Batur in Northeasthern Bali, is a small cemetery known as Trunyan, where people leave their dead to decay in the open air, below a magic, ancient tree that is said to stop the corpses from smelling. Locals believe that the tree, called Taru Menyan, or fragrant tree, aged thousands of years, absorbs the rotting smell. Therefore, The corpses, that are only surrounded by the bamboo sticks , simply laid on the ground and left to be decomposed. The pleasant, incense-like fragrance transmitted from its  leaves actually helps neutralize the odor of the.

Interesting Facts You Should Know About Nyepi in Bali Nyepi or the Day of Silence is a holiday to celebrate Hindu New Year, which is largely commemorated in Bali. The day is reserved for self-reflection, where Balinese have to stay at home to pray and contemplate, prohibited from any daily routine, work, travel, turn on the lights, set the fire or having entertainment. Even tourists have to stay at their hotels. However, the days surrounding Nyepi are the busiest days in Bali. There are numbers of ceremonies before and after the Day of Silence, and people are making a huge, eerie-looking effigies to be burned during the ceremony. Here are some interesting facts about Nyepi you need to know. 1. Nyepi day helps reduce the emission of carbon dioxide in Indonesia by approximately 20,000 tonnes. 2. The United Nations designated a "World Silent Day" every March 21. The day was inspired by the Nyepi Day. 3. In a day of Nyepi in Bali saves electricity by 60 percent, or about 290 megawatts. It’s equal to Rp 4 billion. 4. Ogoh-ogoh, the giant effigies that look like demons, are made several days before Nyepi to be burned during the Ngerupukan ceremony. 5. Ogoh-ogoh will be paraded around the village on the eve before Nyepi and then it will be burned in the town or village hall. 6. Ogoh-ogoh are intricately made by local artists. They represent evil spirits called Bhuta-kala in Hindu teachings. Burning them symbolizes the purification of human and nature from the bad things. 7. The Melasti ritual is held two to four days prior Nyepi. It’s a ceremony to cleanse and purify the souls of the performers. 8. The ceremony usually takes place on a beach, and those who carry it out are usually in a state of trance. 9. Balinese people also gather in front of their houses to prepare offerings for the ritual, one day prior Nyepi. 10. Nyepi helps save fuel as much as 500,000 liters of diesel, equivalent to Rp 3 billion. This is a result of the inactivity of two power plants in Pemaron and Gilimanuk, Bali. 11. One day after Nyepi, Balinese people hold a kissing festival known as Omed-Omedan. During the ceremony, young people gather to pray, and then to dance and kiss each other as the spectators flush them with water. The ceremony is said to chase bad luck away.

Graphic footage of the first ever elephant birth filmed in Bali, Indonesia. Commentary by Elephant Safari Park founder, Nigel Mason. For more information about the park please visit our website: http://elephantsafariparklodge.com/. FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/elephantsafariparklodge/ Message from owner: IN ANSWER TO YOUR MANY QUESTIONS The surface of the sick bay where Riski was born is sandstone and is especially designed to be sterile and poses no threat to the mother and calf during or after the birth. The floor is sloped for run off to wash down and sterilize the area quickly. The Sumatran elephant is the smallest elephant in the world and the slight fall is less than one meter. The baby always comes out feet first, unlike a human baby. This breaks the fall as does the embryonic sack, filled with fluid. To my knowledge, there has never been an injury to a baby by this fall. Otherwise the mother would either squat or lie down for the birth, which is never the case. You may notice that we are actually washing down the area of blood while the baby is still not completely standing. The alternative is to remove the baby and separate it from its mother. This is dangerous as it can often lead to the baby being rejected by its mother. A dirt, straw or other easily contaminated surface is not hygienic and might lead to later infection and anyway, straw laid on any surface would serve little purpose to cushion the fall. Our babies are too precious to take any risk that might harm them, so hygiene is essential. All of our babies were born this way and we have a 100 percent success rate for raising healthy calfs. Elephants in the wild do not choose a soft surface, as they tend to birth wherever they happen to be standing at the time, on dirt, rock, or sometimes in the forest with dangerous sticks that could injure the baby. Remember, that the mother kicked the baby in the head and the ribs very severely, but this in fact brought the baby to life. Maybe she knows better what the baby can handle than we do. This is the first time that one of our babies was born dead. Usually they are alert and up on their feet within minutes. This birth was extremely unusual. The baby has difficulty standing, not only because of a slippery surface, but because its legs are weak and its never stood before. She was weak due to the fact that her birth was so dramatic, (she wasn't breathing). Her mother unfortunately did not take this into account and forced her to stand immediately before she was strong enough. This is an instinctive reaction against predators in the wild. Once standing she had no problem with the surface of the floor. Forty eight hours later they both joined the other mothers and babies in our nursery area, which is grassy and has shady trees. She is extremely healthy and has developed very quickly since her birth. As elephant carers we would do nothing that could cause harm to the baby. Unlike human babies an elephant calf is not fragile, as it has spent almost two years developing inside its mother to give it the extra strength needed to survive the birth and immediately after. Its skeleton is strong and the head is able to withstand far more than a human infant. Never does the surface, whatever it is, make any difference to it standing up within a very short time. This is 18 year old Nickis first baby, she being one of the group of nine elephants that we first rescued from the island of Sumatra in 1997. She was then a four year old orphan who is now part our herd of 30 elephants. Nicki is a very caring and protective mother and plays and swims four times a day with the other babies and their mothers at one of our two park lakes. To answer the question, were we going to help the mother the answer is of course yes. But under the situation it was best to let nature take its course first, as often unnecessary interference can cause the mother to reject the baby. I had allowed for three minutes for Nicki to sort it out before we intervened. However she brought the baby to life in just under 2½ minutes herself. Riski lives at the Elephant Safari Park at Taro near Ubud in central Bali which was created in 1997 and is a full elephant experience. Visitors can learn about Sumatran elephants and can hand feed, touch and even ride the elephants and watch daily elephant talent shows. Here guests can get up close and personal with elephants, unlike zoos where you can only view elephants from a distance. The park also includes many facilities for guests and elephants alike. There are two lakes set in botanical gardens, shade houses, breeding and nursery areas and a laboratory with other elephant facilities. For guests there is an elephant museum, restaurant, shop, arena and 25 room 5 star lodge for overnight stays. Guests can visit in the daytime or for a Night Safari ride with dinner. Bali tigers (Panthera tigris balica) were last positively recorded from the western part of the Indonesian island in the late 1930s. The Bali Barat National Park was established in 1941 in tiger habitat, but it is likely that the Bali tiger was extinct by the end of World War II or possibly as late as the early 1950s. The causes of its extinction include hunting and loss of forest habitat and prey and human development activities.

http://bookinghunter.com Bali is one of the biggest provinces in Indonesia, and it encompasses a number of islands as well as the isle of Bali. Located in the westernmost point of the Lesser Sunda Islands, just between Java and Lombok, Bali is home to over four million people, with the majority of the population following the Hindu religion and culture. Bali is also the most visited place in Indonesia, and people from all over the world flock to the island to experience historic music, traditional food and a vast array of tourist markets. The most important places to visit in Bali are: Ulun Danu temple (in the beautiful island of Bali, Indonesia, you will find such stunning temples as this one amidst inspiring scenery), Beaches (Bali's beaches are among the best in the world. Spectacular vistas surround you. Take time to surf and enjoy the sunsets), Balinese dance (an ancient art form, truly a captivating experience. It is a religious expression and an integral part of the culture), Terraced fields (a common sight in Bali, these fields have been cultivated for literally thousands of years and add to the island's allure), Tanah Temple (located on a rock and Bali's famous Sea Temple, it is a part of Balinese mythology, and said to be constructed in the 15th century) and many more. This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Bali travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight.
